| Junior Monumental Milers Program (JuMMP)
The Department of Parks and Recreation's (DPR) Junior Monumental Milers Program Challenge (JuMMP) program is a special DPR program in partnership with the Greater Washington Sports Alliance, the 2008 SunTrust National Marathon, and Reebok. JuMMP is a physical education program challenge held at DPR recreation centers that promotes the daily habit of running and/or walking for fitness, long life and good health by encouraging youth to run/walk 26 miles over the course of a 17-week period.
DPR knows the bar has been set high, but we also know that our youth are more than capable of rising to the challenge. By participating in this program youth will have the opportunity to take charge of their own health and will learn valuable one-of-a-kind lessons in life and achievement, self-discipline, sportsmanship, dedication, patience and determination. Participants can track their miles by registering at their local recreation centers and completing a running log. Students will receive rewards for competing “pit stops” along the way.
On Saturday, March 29, 2008, particiapting youth will have the chance to complete the “final mile” of the program at the the 2008 SunTrust National Marathon and National Half Marathon. Participants will run around the “runner’s village” in front of RFK and then across the same finish line as the runners competing in the National Marathon and National Half- Marathon, where they will greeted by cheers from the crowd. Each finisher of the challenge will be awarded a commemorative finisher medal and a goody bag. |
